In order to give the senior members some form of recognition, and in part to help maintain relationships between the administrative staff and the non moderators, HRF is going to "
beta-test" a representative system.
Firstly, to clear up a few things. From here on out, "administrative staff" will mean the "Global Moderators" and "Administrators". For now, that's the new two new moderators, Dano, and myself. The Representatives will not have access to the moderation panel, meaning they cannot delete posts or ban members. That will still be for the administrative staff.
I've been perusing some of the forums, and have seen a general negative vibe regarding Halo3Forums, where most of you came from. From best I can tell, it's due to a bit of a
divide between the administration and the other members. I'm sure it's not the only problem, as a community gets a bit more testy with each other as size grows and age of the board increases.
The implementation of the Representative position is designed to combat this. If you believe a moderator is singling you out, and the rest of the staff is just doing the same thing, the representatives are your discourse. They will be able to contact Dano and myself, and we will work with them in to solve the problem. The representative will be able to also determine if the accusations are worth the process. For example, if you, in the "regular member" membergroup thinks that a moderator is abusing their privilege, then that is worth elevating. On the other hand, if you think that a moderator is being mean by not giving you free cotton candy, the representative will tell you to, politely, re-evaluate the situation.
The representatives will be chosen at random intervals, with random criteria. If you think that someone is deserving of being one, PM one of the staff and we will look into it. Generally speaking, it will be the member who has the best chance, we feel, to solidify, build, and best speak for the community at large. These are likely the most senior members who have contributed quality content. This means that just because you have eleventy-billion posts, you are not necessarily a good candidate.
Again,
this is not to say that the staff doesn't value everyone's thoughts, even the one posters and lurkers, because we do. (At least, I do.) This is hopefully to give those who feel like they don't have a voice another outlet.
If this doesn't work out, we'll find another option. This is kind of a new thing that I didn't really float by anyone, so if anyone has suggestions or comments regarding this, please leave a message at the beep. BEEEP.
